Basic performance requirements for plastic mold production

1. Sufficient surface hardness and abrasion resistance.

The hardness of plastic mold is usually below 50-60hrc, and the mould with heat treatment should have enough surface hardness to ensure sufficient rigidity.Mould at work due to the filling of plastic and flow under high compressive stress and friction, the mold is asked to keep the shape of the precision and the stability of the dimensional accuracy, ensure the service life of mould have enough.The wear resistance of the mould depends on the chemical composition and heat treatment hardness of the steel, so the hardness of the mould can improve its wear resistance.

2. Excellent cutting processing.

Most plastic mold production, besides the EMD processing, also requires a certain machining and fitter repair.In order to prolong the service life of cutting tool, improve the cutting performance and reduce the surface roughness, the hardness of the plastic mould must be suitable.

3. Good polishing performance.

High quality plastic products require small roughness on the surface of the cavity.For example, the surface roughness value of the injection mold cavity is less than the level of Ra0.1 ~ 0.25, and the optical surface requires Ra<0.01nm, and the cavity must be polished to reduce the surface roughness value.The steel required for this purpose is less impurities, microstructure microstructure, no fiber orientation, no pitting or orange peel defects when polishing.

4. Good thermal stability.

Plastic injection mould parts shapes are more complex, difficult to process after quenching, so should choose as far as possible with good thermal stability, when the mould processing after the heat treatment for small linear expansion coefficient, heat treatment deformation is small, the size of the rate of change caused by the temperature difference is small, the microstructure and the mold size stability, can reduce or no longer carry on the processing, can guarantee the mold size accuracy and surface roughness requirements.
